News!

05.05.2008 - CafePress Store and Campus Reps Program launched!
Since the launch of the website, we have been getting many new users and lots of new books listed. This is very exciting to us, and hope it is to the community as well. In response to much demand, we have opened a CafePress Store where everything from tee-shirts and hoodies to mousepads and mugs can be ordered. We make little to nothing on the merch, but are offering 2 credits per item ordered by contacting us with the email address used and order number or an electronic receipt.

The second thing that we are very excited about is our CampusBooksale Campus Reps Program, which is in the final stages of testing. The way it works is that a campus rep will promote CampusBooksale.com on their campus and regardless of how they got to us, the rep will get commission for those who register from their school and sell at least one book through CampusBooksale.com. Please check it out, and let us know if you are interested! (We want to start getting ready for the fall semester.)

04.18.2008 - WE'VE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED!!!
It is a privledge (and brings me great joy) to say that CampusBooksale.com is officially open for business! After hundreds of hours coding the site, it is ready for use by the general public. I'm not about to say that it's 100% error free, but we'll continue working on it as we find issues. (PLEASE report issues, by using the Contact Us form. I'll be giving some free Credits out to those who are good with reporting!)
That having been said, it's finally summer! Go out and enjoy yourself...After listing your books that is...

1.29.2008 - Get ready for HUGE updates!
We have been developing a new version of the site (version 2.0) which incorporates the latest and greatest in technology trends and standards on the web. The new version of the site will feature user logins, a book management system, and will also become Green. In addition to these great features, the interface will look much cleaner and be faster and easier to use than ever before.

The first update will include user logins which has been needed since the beginning and is finally ready to be implemented. It will be required to register in order to list any type of book, to sell or buy. The purpose of this book management system, which will be described later, will become more useful in tracking books that are sold through the site (success rate) and books that aren't. Of course no personal information will EVER be sold or even looked at, seeing as we just don't care...we just want to be as personable as possible.

The next huge upgrade is the book management system which will be used for tracking books throughout the site. It is a way for us to better be able to keep track of which books you still have and/or need, keeping the site as up-to-date as possible, so as to not throw off potential customers. You will be able to mark your books with a status, and you will be able to get in contact with other registered users if, and only if, they are interested in buying something from you, or vice-versa. It is still in development, and we are EXTREMELY excited with the results we are getting already.

The last of the big upgrades includes becoming Green. This may not mean a lot to everybody but lets explain. It envolves being more aware and involved with keeping our Earth sustainable, clean and healthy. That being said, I will now explain our new environmental involvement. Of course we are still in development of this as well, but it would involve us helping renew the trees that are cut down as a results of us needing books. When was the last time you saw a textbook made of recycled material? Our new promise is to be the sponsor of the planting of a tree for every book that is sold through CampusBooksale.com.

How do we do this? There are multiple organizations that make this possible and we have decided to put our donations towards Sustainable Harvest International, a nonprofit organization that works "toward environmental, economic and social sustainability". They have staff in the US as well as Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama helping communities in need promoting "sustainable agriculture techniques that protect and restore the ecological balance of the land."

CampusBooksale is about to become CampusBooksale 2.0 and we hope you will join us and bear with us while we work out all of the kinks. We have redesigned the website to conform to the trend of Web 2.0 and like the results we've been getting. Using secure databases we have made it easier for you to sell books and to let us know that it's been sold.

12.18.2007 - Recent News
It was brought to my attention that there was an incompatibility issue with visitors using Internet Explorer 7. The glitch was contained within the Category Selection Options box. This bug has been patched and is now working fine. I personally wanted to appologize for the inconveniences that this has caused.

On a more positive note, we have seen a great turnout due to our Facebook advertising. It has been very beneficial, though costly, I'm happy with the results. I've recently noticed that more than half of the visitors are bookmarking the site, which is more great news! I also wanted to add that I am going to be incorporating more useful features over the Holiday break, so check back often for new stuff!

12.09.2007 - New Upgrades to the site!
The expected category selection utility has been implemented into the homepage and is working properly. This has helped significantly reduce load times for the site, and is very useful overall for quickly finding the books you need.

Another feature that we are working on is having the ability to log in and more easily manage available and needed books to keep the site up-to-date.

More Coming Soon!!!

11.27.2007 - Everything back up-and-running!
The problem we were having with forms has been fixed. If you submitted any books or used the Contact Us form between November 17th and today (November 27th) please resubmit them as we didn't receive them. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!

11.24.2007 - Downtime expected
We've discovered that our forms to submit books or to contact us have not been working for a few days and we are working on getting them fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience! Email us at webmaster@campusbooksale.com if you have questions or would like us to inform you when we are back up-and-running correctly.

09.20.2007 - Coming Soon! Added features and security...
A recently added line of defense preventing against spam has brought to our attention that personal names can be returned by a search engine request that can possibly contain a users school name; seemingly non-threatening information. We took this into consideration while implementing the new "human verifier" to list or request a book, and will soon be implemented (along with additional security measures) to make sure that we are not allowing searchable names from any of our sites.

The way the new system will work is that the viewer will click on an unsearchable image with a users name, linking to another "human verifier" and only after the verification is complete can they see yet another unsearchable image with the users contact information (as it is currently and has always worked in the past).

These added security benefits are only meant to further prevent from online predators being able to search and find any CampusBooksale.com content that will reveal the school that our users are attending.

Another great feature that will be showing up soon is a redesigned and more advanced searching method which allows all of, and only, the categories that the viewer wants to see to be displayed. It will look something like this:

That's all for now, good luck this semester, stay safe, and let the cheap books flow!
